High-tech Indoor Farming is Shaking Up the Agriculture Community

Mike Zelkind opens a former shipping container and gives us a peek into the future. Thousands of collard greens are growing under pink-purple lamps. It seems like something out of a sci-fi movie, but it’s not. Zelkind is the head of 80 Acres Farms, an indoor farm in Cincinnati, Ohio. These farms are called vertical farms because the plants are organized up and down instead of side by side in rows on the ground. Most plants grow with sunlight but Zelkind is allowing plants to grow without a ray of sunlight. This provides hope for the future.
