US Man Finishes Solo Race Across Antarctica
American Colin O’Brady becomes the first person to cross Antarctica alone and unassisted.
Colin O’Brady set out on November 3rd with British Army Captain Louis Rudd in a race to become the first person to cross Antarctica solo. Colin O’Brady won by a couple of days. The 921-mile trek took them across the coldest continent on Earth in some of the most extreme conditions and while dragging a 375 pound sled. Every day Colin O’Brady moved across harsh conditions for 12 to 13 hours a day.
Other than walking across Antarctica O’Brady has done a lot of other amazing things. O’Brady has climbed the 7 summits (the tallest mountains in each continent) and has skied to the south and north pole.
Some difficulties of walking across Antarctica is that the men must carry all the calories they will consume throughout the journey, a nearly impossible task considering their level of energy exertion, and boil ice and snow for all their drinking water.
This is an amazing feat and I hope other people will also conquer this adventure.
